Cherie Curry, the original leader singer for The Runaways, is coming to Australia and New Zealand in May.

The Runaways were the all-female American rock band catapulted to success by producer Kim Fowley. Their story was told in the 2010 movie ‘The Runaways’ with Dakota Fanning playing the part of Cherie Currie.

Despite the accolades in the USA, The Runaways initial success was originally in Australia and Japan. Their debut single ‘Cherry Bomb’ reached no. 57 in Australia and went all the way to no 1 in Japan, yet failed to make the American Top 100.

Currie left The Runaways in 1978 and released her first solo album ‘Beauty’s Only Skin Deep’ that year. Her next album was a duet record ‘Messin’ With The Boys’ with her sister Marie Currie. The album featuring backing band Toto.

Cherie married actor Robert Hays, the star of the movie ‘Flying High’. Their son Jake is now in her band.

Currie also spread her talents to acting and starred opposite Jodie Foster in the 1980 movie ‘Foxes’.

This year Cherrie release ‘Reverie’, her first album in 35 years. The album features songs co-written with her son Jake Hays. Jake also performs and sings lead vocals on the track ‘Shades of Me’ on the album. Cherie’s former Runaways member Lita Ford is also a guest on the record.

Cherie Curry will tour Australia and New Zealand for David Roy Williams and Tombowler.
