David Cassidy Takes Time Off To Get Sober

David Cassidy is withdrawing from public life to clean up his act.

Life has not been easy for the 70s teen idol.

Such was the situation in which David Cassidy found himself in the wake of his recent third DUI and the filing for divorce by his wife. The comments and innuendos got bad enough that, last Friday, David decided to shutdown his official Facebook page, saying:

Due to ignorance and insults about myself and my relationship that some people feel the need to try and involve themselves in, and who have no knowledge of, nor are they entitled to, I am closing down my Facebook page. I’m not giving those people my forum for them to spew their ugly bile any longer. To all the rest God Bless You. DC

What Cassidy received over the next two days in response to his decision was an outpouring of love and support from hundreds of fans, an action which has caused the singer to rethink his decision. David will leave the page active but has decided to shutdown the comments.

He also stated that, while he will fulfill all of his scheduled obligations, he will be taking off much of the rest of 2014 to “reintroduce myself to my sober life and do the necessary work to clean up the past.”

His full statement:

In response to the hundreds of emails and messages from supportive and loving fans begging me not to shut down my facebook page I have decided keep the Facebook page to give you updates but not to take anybody else’s posts.

I won’t be doing any more concerts in the near future except for what is up on my website. I would love to have you come, including to my favorite performing venue which is the Mohegan Sun in the middle of March. I probably won’t be adding any other shows until the last quarter of the year. I need to take this time to reintroduce myself to my sober life and do the necessary work to clean up the past.

God Bless,
DC
