Gotye Ends Year With Biggest Selling Single In America

Gotye has become the first Australian artist in thirty years to land the No.1 song of the year on the US Billboard charts.

“Somebody That I Used to Know” is the No.1 song in Canada, the number one radio airplay and digital download song for the year, and also the biggest song for 2012 on the Adult Pop and Alternative Song charts.

The Billboard charts calculate their end of year chart from 1st December 2011 to the end of November 2012, and with Gotye landing the biggest song of the year in the US he breaks a thirty year record for an Australian artist to take out the top of the EOY chart. The last Aussie to land the No.1 song of the year in America was Olivia Newton-John with “Physical” in 1982.

Another feat occurred on the US End of Year Albums chart too, as Adele’s “21” album took out top honors for a second year running, the only other time this has happened on Billboard’s EOY charts was in 1983 and 1984 when Michael Jackson’s Thriller” achieved that record.
