Jordie Lane has completed work on his first album in 5 years. ‘Glassellland’ (pronounced Glas-Sell-Land) will be released in September.
Lane describes ‘Glassellland’ as “a fresh start”.
“It felt like fresh start, a time to get back to my youthful ways, approaching music with naivety and fearlessness,” he said. “There was this sign on a hill, around the corner from our first recording space that stood only 3 metres high, that said GLASSELLLAND in big block letters. It was this ironic take on the original HOLLYWOODLAND sign. Instantly it became the symbol for the album before we’d even started writing. It was like a visual mantra that said: ‘Your dreams are endless!’ But the difference was it was not all glossy and fake Hollywood. It was a mundane, regular working class, real, gritty, neighborhood. Not far from what my hometown of Thornbury was like when I was growing up in Melbourne. Being the producers and engineers, Clare and I learnt how to use the recording gear, and inevitably our lack of knowledge gave us a sense of freedom and the so called “mistakes” gave the record a truth and authenticity that couldn’t be orchestrated any other way.”
Clare ‘Lollies’ Reynolds produced ‘Glassellland’. “Imagine Rufus Wainwright is drinking tequila with Neil Young,” she said. “In walks Paul McCartney, arm in arm with Neil Finn discussing the demise of human connection. If you can picture that then you’re drawing closer to the space and fanciful world that Jordie and I have created with his new record GLASSELLLAND.”
Jordie will tour to support the album release.
