Protest The Hero have released a lyric video for their new single ‘A Life Embossed’ from their forthcoming album ‘Volition’.

The lyrics in the song refer to the band’s opposition to legislation brought in by their hometown of Ottawa, Canada. This law “discriminates against a specific breed of dog,” said lead singer Rody Walker.

“The song and video for ‘A Life Embossed’ attempts to draw much needed attention to an issue that affects all dog lovers alike,” added Walker.

Following further research into the new law, it was discovered that Ottawa have prohibited anyone from breeding, importing, transferring, fighting, abandoning or even owning a pit bull.

But, there is nothing “specific’” about the breed as a ‘pit bull’ isn’t a specific breed at all. It is a blanket name that is given to dogs that look the same. For example, Ottawa’s law defines a pit bull as: “a pit bull terrier, Staffordshire bull terrier, American Staffordshire terrier, American pit bull terrier or a dog that has an appearance and physical characteristics that are substantially similar to any of the aforementioned dogs.”
