Josh Pyke joins Paul Cashmere on Noise11.com to discuss his deeply personal new album Kingdom Within.

In this 2026 Noise11.com interview, Josh opens up about the grief of losing his mother to Alzheimer’s, the spiritual themes running through the album, and how songwriting helps him process emotions that are difficult to express in conversation.

Track-by-track, Josh reveals the stories behind songs including Kingdom Within, Under The Escarpment, Highway, Sometimes Life Leaves More Than It Takes, Priest Or Politician, Spring Of All Things, Won’t Be Heavy Forever, Howlers, Magic and Bury My Money On The Farm.

He talks about the influence of Buddhism and spirituality despite identifying as an atheist, his ongoing search for meaning through creativity, and why nature, art and music continue to feel “magical”.

Josh also discusses working with Missy Higgins on Won’t Be Heavy Forever, the existential themes explored in Howlers, and how social media and modern culture influenced the song You’re Doing Better Than You Think You Are.

Beyond the music, Josh speaks about his advocacy work, including Busking For Change and his involvement with the Indigenous Literacy Foundation.

The interview explores creativity, anxiety, love, mortality, capitalism, and why Kingdom Within was designed to be heard as a complete album experience from beginning to end.
