Missy Elliott Leads Tributes To Aretha Franklin

Missy Elliott and Ciara are leading the tributes to Aretha Franklin following heartbreaking news the Queen of Soul is “gravely ill”.

Showbiz 411 first reported the story of the singer’s failing health, and now Franklin’s famous fans have taken to social media to offer up their thoughts and well wishes.

“Praying for Aretha Franklin and her family right now!” Ciara wrote, while rapper Elliott added: “My prayers are with Aretha Franklin & her family during this difficult time.”

Missy also reminded followers of a tweet she sent out earlier this year (18), adding: “we MUST CELEBRATE the Living Legends while they are here to see it. So many have given us decades of Timeless music…”

Meanwhile, Mariah Carey wrote, “Praying for the Queen of Soul #ArethaFranklin,” and Paula Abdul tweeted, “My love, prayers and warm thoughts are with Aretha Franklin-the Queen of Soul. I’m praying for her and her health. Thank you to all her family and friends who are standing by her and loving her through her illness. I’m holding you all in my heart.”

“Adding my prayer to the galaxy of prayers for Aretha today,” posted Hamilton creator and former star Lin-Manuel Miranda.

Aretha’s family and friends have reportedly dashed to Detroit, Michigan, where the Queen of Soul grew up, to be by her bedside. Multiple reports suggest the soul legend is fighting for life.

Franklin previously battled a bout of ill health in 2010, when she secretly underwent surgery to remove a tumour, but her efforts to keep the news private prompted premature death reports in 2011, following claims she had been diagnosed with pancreatic cancer.

The news of Franklin’s ill health comes months after she was the subject of another death hoax, and her family and friends were forced to speak out to assure fans she hadn’t passed away.
