Nick Cannon Joins Republican Protest

Nick Cannon has vowed to continue protesting outside the Republican National Convention after leading a Black Lives Matter demonstration in Ohio on Monday.

Cannon joined fellow civil rights activists at the Cleveland event, and demanded recognition from political leaders to tackle the issue of rising racial tensions following the deaths of African-African men Alton Sterling and Philando Castile, who were shot and killed by police in separate incidents earlier this month.

“We want to be respected,” he said, according to The Daily Mail. “We want to feel safe. We want the American Dream. You are messing with our peace of mind. We can’t operate as Americans when we can’t walk outside and feel safe.

“We are going to be out here for the entire convention and make sure our voices are heard. My community brought me down here today and the lack of representation for my community brought me down here today.”

Airing his grievances with the Republicans and Democrats, he continued, “Both (parties) aren’t speaking about our issues and they have been taking our votes for granted for far too long. They would just sweep it under the rug and pretend it is not happening. We are just crying for help and we are losing lives by the hour.”

Nick has vowed to return to keep protesting during the Republican National Convention, which runs until Thursday.

The 35-year-old’s involvement in the Ohio Black Lives Matter protest comes days after he took to the streets of New York with other demonstrators on 7 July to protest against police brutality, following the Sterling and Castile shootings.

Nick previously told ETOnline.com that he has been involved in the Black Lives Matter movement by visiting communities affected by similar killings and has been meeting with district attorneys to discuss reforms in criminal justice and the prison system.

“I’m kinda putting my money where my mouth is,” he said. “I’m putting my efforts where my mouth is, and I’m actually in the community. I know we’re all upset about a lot of things that are going on. Instead of getting out and just talking about it, I’m really trying to do it.”
