After a successful operation to remove the cancer that saw her and the band take an immediate hiatus, Sharon Jones will return to her Dap-Kings to finally ‘Give The People What They Want’.

Originally slated for an August release, Sharon Jones and the Dap-Kings’ new album ‘Give The People What They Want’ was put on hold after Sharon was diagnosed with cancer. Even with Jones still requiring ongoing treatment, album is now set for release on January 10 and will be followed by Sharon’s inspirational return to the stage on February 6.

‘Retreat’, a new single off the album, is another piece of soul genius from the group and will no doubt get their loyal fans excited about the return.

For over a decade, the group has built a loyal and dedicated fan-base while remaining firmly rooted in the underground rather than the mainstream. Their live performances are stuff of legend, further complimented by their incredible studio recordings.

The band’s leader and bassist, Bosco Mann, had this to say regarding Sharon’s recovery and the new album:

“The entire Daptone Family is overjoyed and inspired to see Sharon’s recovery… Without a doubt, this album is the greatest thing we’ve ever recorded and I’ve been anxious for the world to hear it. Everything will culminate in February at the Beacon. That moment when Sharon walks out to join us on stage again is going to be insane.”

Here’s hoping they make it to Australia in the very near future.

In the meantime, check out the new animated video for ‘Retreat’.
