Sister Sledge will perform for Pope Francis at a special global gathering for The World Meeting of Families 2015 event, taking place in Philadelphia, USA, on the 26th of September 2015.

The event marks the first time that Pope Francis will officially visit the United States.

The World Meeting of Families 2015 will see families from around the world converge in Philadelphia for a series of special prayer-led activities and thought-provoking debate. Held every three years, this year’s event theme is ‘Love Is Our Mission: The Family Fully Alive’, resonating in perfect synergy with Sister Sledge’s own persona and defining message: ‘Nothing Is Greater Than Love’, a belief they have chosen to stand by throughout their career.

Internationally famed for multi-award winning records such as ‘We Are Family’, ‘Lost in Music’ and ‘Thinking of You’, the group will perform an exclusive and special rendition of the song ‘We Are Family’ during the Papal visit. Since its release, ‘We Are Family’ has had over 1 billion digital downloads and has become the mantra for peace across the world.

Speaking about their performance at the event, the group said in a statement: ‘We are truly honoured to have been asked to perform for His Holiness Pope Francis.

The World Meeting of Families is such a special and unique event, which will bring together families from all over the world in a bond of unity, love and solidarity. We were thrilled to learn that His Holiness chose our hometown, Philadelphia, to show the entire world the significance of Family, Faith and Love. We firmly stand for and believe in the ideals that Pope Francis will be speaking about, particularly the vital importance of the family, human rights and equality for all.’

Performing to capacity crowds the world over, Sister Sledge remain in the international spotlight and are currently working on an exciting new music campaign, set to inspire and empower others with a message they are so passionate in communicating.

‘Our group’s legacy of love stems from the expression of sisterhood so triumphantly voiced in one of our most famous songs “We Are Family”. This message is now as important and fresh as ever. Through life experience we have come to realize that we are ‘all’ family. Together we must stand in unity as sisters and brothers for the betterment of humankind. Every woman, man and child has the right to receive love.’

‘We look forward to joining with others on the 26th September in celebrating the gifts of life, faith and love to mark the beloved Pope Francis’ visit to the USA. We will unite and rejoice with families the world over’ Sister Sledge said.

Sister Sledge will be joined by an array of performers that include host Mark Wahlberg, Aretha Franklin, Jim Gaffigan, The Fray, Andrea Bocelli, Juanes, Marie Miller, Matt Maher, and The Philadelphia Orchestra.

Sister Sledge will be performing at The World Meeting of Families 2015 event on 26th September 2015 on the Benjamin Franklin Parkway, Philadelphia.
