Efrem Zimbalist Jr, one of the great TV actors of the 50s and 60s, has died at his home in California at the age of 95.
Zimbalist starred in the lead role of Stu Bailey in ’77 Sunset Strip’ from 1958 to 1964 and is best known for his starring role as Inspector Lewis Erskine in ‘The F.B.I.’ from 1965 to 1974.
Efrem Zimbalist Jr was the son of famed violinist Efrem Zimbalist, who died in 1985 also at age 95.
His daughter Stephanie Zimbalist co-starred with Pierce Brosnan in the 80s TV series Remington Steele. Efram had a recurring role as con-man Daniel Chalmers in his daughter’s TV show.
In a statement his family said, “We are heartbroken to announce the passing into peace of our beloved father, Efrem Zimbalist, Jr., today at his Solvang, Calif. ranch. He was 95 years old. A devout Christian, he actively enjoyed his life to the last day, showering love on his extended family, playing golf, and visiting with close friends. We will miss him dearly”.
