Kinks Reunion Could Be Close

Kinks founders Ray and Dave Davies are getting on better than ever and even spent New Year’s Eve together.

“Me and my girlfriend had a nice vegetarian curry with my Ray and his girlfriend the other night. We had a lovely evening-It was a wonderful way to kick off a new year! Happy 2014 everyone,” Dave posted on Facebook.

Before their were the battling Gallagher brothers in Oasis, there were the fighting Davies of the Kinks.

Over the last few years, there have been numerous reports of a Kinks reunion but they have always been shot down by either Ray or Dave Davies. That may change as the 50th anniversary of the band approaches as British magazine Uncut talked with Ray.

In their latest edition, Ray said “It’s as close as it’s ever been to happening.”

Dave added “We got together in August (2013) and the first few days were beautiful. We went up the pub and had a few Guinnesses, and we were talking about all kinds of shit, the old days and what-ifs. I said to Ray I thought that it’d be a great shame if we don’t try and do something. I think it’s time reality took over.”

Unfortunately, Dave still has reservations. “I don’t want to see the legacy of The Kinks soured by two miserable old men doing it for the money.”

Original bass player Pete Quaife died in 2010, leaving the two Davies brothers and Mick Avory as the surviving members. Avory is interested in the possibilities “I think it would be nice to do something all together. Because the chances are diminishing as we talk. Hopefully me, Dave and Ray can meet before it happens. We’d have to knock our heads together and rehearse, if we meant to do it properly. We haven’t played together for God knows how long.”
