Surviving Doors Pay Tribute To Ray Manzarek

by Roger Wink, VVN Music on February 15, 2016

in News

Friday night, surviving Doors members Robbie Krieger and John Densmore held their long-in-the-planning salute to their late bandmate Ray Manzarek.

Manzarek died on May 20, 2013 and, even though Densmore was on the outs with the other two members over the use of Doors name and music in advertising, he and Robbie made amends to eventually put on Friday’s show.

The majority of the evening was Doors songs performed by a long list of guests including Warren Haynes, Taylor Hawkins and Rami Jaffee (Foo Fighters), John Doe and Exena Cervenka (X), Robert DeLeo (STP) and Stephen Perkins (Jane’s Addiction).

Densmore only played on five songs, telling the crowd that he had “blown out” his ears years earlier. Perkins played on the majority of songs.

The set list (Robbie Krieger on all songs except where noted):

Set One
When the Music’s Over (with Warren Haynes, John Densmore)
Alabama Song (Whisky Bar) (with Taylor Hawkins)
Love Me Two Times (with Taylor Hawkins, John Densmore)
Back Door Man (with Emily Armstrong, Jim Manzarek, Brian Ray)
Soul Kitchen (with Brian Ray, John Doe and Exene Cervenka, Krieger Sat Out)
Nausea (with Brian Ray, John Doe and Exene Cervenka, Krieger Sat Out)
People Are Strange (with Annika Rose, John Densmore, Rami Jaffee)
Five to One (with Waylon Krieger)

Set Two
Break On Through (to the Other Side) (with Waylon Krieger, Phil Chen, John Densmore)
L.A. Woman (with Andrew Watt)
Moonlight Drive (with Nasri, Phil Chen)
Wild Child (with Warren Haynes, Matt Abts, Jorgen Carlsson, Waylon Krieger)
Riders on the Storm (with John Doe, John Densmore)
Roadhouse Blues (with Warren Haynes, John Doe, Jim Manzarek)

Encore
Light My Fire (All)
