The anonymous Australian heavy project have released their debut single, “Spirit”, but there are no names, no band photo and only a handful of clues to work with.

Someone has launched a new Australian heavy music project, released a debut single and music video, and then apparently decided the best way to introduce themselves was to tell us almost nothing about who they are. The band is called Absurda, the first song is “Spirit”, and beyond that, the mystery is very much part of the story.
“Spirit” is out now through Believe International, with the music video premiering via Dreambound. The track provides the first substantial clue about the people behind Absurda, pointing towards a sound built from contemporary metal, rock and metalcore rather than a retro exercise in anonymity.
There is no photograph of the members. There are no names. There is no conventional biography identifying the musicians. What has been revealed is that the people involved are already known within the Australian alternative and heavy music world.
That is enough to make Absurda an interesting proposition for anyone who has spent time following Australia’s heavy music scene.
The musical reference points offer another clue. Absurda draw on the scale and intensity associated with Bring Me The Horizon while incorporating the contrasting light and shade of The Plot In You. Those influences are audible in “Spirit”, which moves through a dark, atmospheric landscape rather than relying solely on heaviness.
Lyrically, the song uses supernatural imagery to describe something considerably more human.
“Spirit” follows someone trying to escape the lingering presence of a past relationship. The ghost becomes a metaphor for heartbreak, with the central idea being that leaving a relationship does not necessarily mean leaving its memories behind.
That theme gives the mystery surrounding Absurda another dimension. The song is deliberately personal, but the musicians responsible for it have removed almost every conventional personal detail from the public presentation.
The video extends that approach, allowing the music and visual world to establish the project before the identities behind it become part of the conversation.
For Australian heavy music followers, the obvious question is now: who is Absurda?
The available information makes one thing clear. This is not a completely unknown group of musicians stepping into the scene for the first time. The people behind Absurda have existing connections to Australia’s alternative and heavy music community, although those connections have not yet been publicly identified.
That leaves plenty of room for clues, but not for assumptions. A familiar voice, a production credit, a playing style, a previous band connection or even a visual detail could eventually provide the missing piece.
Noise11 readers who think they recognise something in “Spirit” can send through credible clues. We will be interested to see whether the Australian heavy music community can solve the mystery before Absurda decide to solve it themselves.
For now, “Spirit” is the only official chapter available. More music from Absurda is promised, but there is no word yet on when the masks will come off.
So, Absurda have entered the chat.
The question is: who invited them?
