Randy Bachman joins Noise11 to talk about the long-awaited Bachman-Turner Overdrive Australia and New Zealand tour in 2027, his son Tal Bachman joining the band, and Tal’s wife Coco Bachman on drums, The Guess Who, Not Fragile, “American Woman”, “Taking Care Of Business” and “You Ain’t Seen Nothing Yet”.
In this Noise11 interview with Paul Cashmere, Randy explains the story behind the title Not Fragile and its connection to Yes’ Fragile, revealing how BTO recorded three albums across just 15 months while also performing hundreds of shows.
Randy recalls the extraordinary pace of BTO’s rise, including 300 concerts a year, recording albums in just days and the pressure from the record label to deliver radio singles.
He also talks about the Bachman family connection within the current BTO lineup. Tal Bachman, best known for “She’s So High”, is now playing guitar and singing with his father, while Tal’s wife Coco is the band’s drummer. Randy explains how Coco recreates the playing style of his late brother Robbie Bachman.
The interview also explores the remarkable afterlife of “American Woman”, including Lenny Kravitz’s version and his extended live performances of the song, and the accidental creation of “Taking Care Of Business”.
Randy reveals that “You Ain’t Seen Nothing Yet” was originally a throwaway recording because of the stuttering vocal, only for the song to become a worldwide hit and later receive recognition from the American Stuttering Association.
