In a posting at Big Day Out’s New Zealand Facebook account the organisers of the festival have announced “This year will be New Zealand’s last Big Day out. Come party with us this Friday. It’s been an amazing 18 years here in Auckland.”

The news was certainly a shock to the Kiwis who reacted angrily to the news.

“I’m not going to buy tickets to a gig with a shit lineup just cos it’s the last one,” wrote Lawrence Thompson.

“Bring on something new please, bdo is tired,” wrote Paul Manning.

“Two things easy to fix: 1: Get bigger names, 2: Lower ticket prices. Job done”.

Not everyone was negative. “So sad, very guttered. Its been a 10 year love affair. I will miss you big day out,” wrote Nicole Chapman.

One person, Sam Hall, thought it was a stunt. “Bet it will still go ahead next year. Publicity stunt perhaps”.

Big Day Out New Zealand is on this Friday.

Other dates are:

January 22, Gold Coast
January 26, Sydney
January 29, Melbourne
February 3, Adelaide
February 5, Perth
