Eric Clapton To Release JJ Cale Tribute Album

by Paul Cashmere on May 1, 2014

in New Music,News

Eric Clapton will release a tribute album to his friend JJ Cale in July and include some of his other big name friends to help him out.

John Mayer, Willie Nelson, Tom Petty, Mark Knopfler and Derek Trucks are just a few of the names who guest on the album ‘The Breeze: An Appreciation of JJ Cale’.

Clapton was credited with bringing Cale’s work to a larger audience when he covered Cale’s ‘After Midnight’ and ‘Cocaine’ in the 70s. Clapton and Cale collaborated on the 2006 album ‘Road To Escondido. JJ Cale died in La Jolia, California in July 2013 at age 74. Of that album Eric said, “This is the realization of what may have been my last ambition, to work with the man whose music has inspired me for as long as I can remember.”

Now Eric wants to keep Cale’s profile up via the new album. “I would like people to tap into what JJ Cale did – that’s the point. I’m just the messenger; I’ve always felt that that’s my job. I try to interpret things so that the public at large, or at least the people who listen to what I do, will become intrigued about where I got it from,” said Clapton.

‘The Breeze: An Appreciation of JJ Cale’ will be released on July 29, 2014.
