Gary Barlow has been hailed as ‘brave’ by fans and fellow stars for performing at the Olympic closing ceremony last night.

The Take That star took to the stage with his band despite his personal grief after announcing the loss of daughter Poppy just over a week ago. His participation was in doubt following the sad revelation that his fourth child with wife Dawn had been delivered stillborn.
Fans and fellow entertainers took to Twitter to express their admiration for the star, who performed a rousing rendition of Rule The Word with fellow band members Jason Orange, Mark Owen and Howard Donald as the London 2012 Olympic Games came to a close last night.
‘I don’t know how Gary Barlow does it #amazing [sic],’ British singer Lily Allen wrote on Twitter.
“I don’t know how Gary Barlow’s had the strength to do this tonight – RIP his poor little girl, Poppy [sic],’ added TV host Piers Morgan.
Fifth original Take That member Robbie Williams did not join the band at the high-profile event.
Gary had confirmed the sad news of the loss in a statement earlier this month. ‘Dawn and I are devastated to announce that we’ve lost our baby,’ the message read.
‘Poppy Barlow was delivered stillborn on August 4 in London. Our focus now is giving her a beautiful funeral and loving our three children with all our hearts. We’d ask at this painful time that our privacy be respected.’
