George Clinton Is Quitting Touring

George Clinton has just one more year of touring left in him.

Billboard reported on Friday (April 27) that Clinton will retire from touring in May of 2019. Clinton said in a statement “This has been coming a long time. Anyone who has been to the shows over the past couple of years has noticed that I’ve been out front less and less.”

Keep in mind, this is NOT the end of Parliament/Funkadelic and other Clinton oriented bands. “They’ll still be funkin’ long after I stop.”

George Clinton formed a doo-wop group called the Parliaments in the late 50’s before becoming a staff writer at Motown along with working with a number of other Detroit area labels. By the late 60’s, Clinton had transitioned the Parliaments into two bands, Parliament and Funkadelic and, by the mid-70’s, both bands were having regular hits including “Tear the Roof Off the Sucker (Give Up the Funk)” and “Flash Light” (both Parliament) along with “One Nation Under a Groove” and “(Not Just) Skin Deep” (both Funkadelic). Clinton also had his own solo career starting in the 80’s with hits like “Atomic Dog” and “Do Fries Go With That Shake?”.
