Grinspoon Transition to Classic Rock Status

Grinspoon are fast transitioning to Classic Rock Status with sell-out shows reported in both Melbourne and Wollongong for their Chemical Hearts tour.

Ahh yes, Classic Rock, the format that developed with songs played in the AOR format became oldies. In all fairness to Grinspoon, the song ‘Chemical Heart’, released in 2002, falls a few years short of the 20-year line that qualifies as Classic Rock, although the band 1997 debut puts them comfortably into the category.

Technically, this is an Alternative Rock tour by a Classic Rock band.

Too complicated? Yeah, fuck it. Just rock. https://www.grinspoon.com.au

“It is with humility and a profound sense of gratitude to our friends in the gorgeous cities of Melbourne and Wollongong that the tickets to the concerts have been exhausted through enthusiastic participation at the ticket booth,” lead singer Phil Jamieson said in his acceptance speech. “It is due to our love for these cities and as they say in the classics ‘overwhelming demand’ that we are adding extra shows to these two beautiful places. You can come if you like!”

Sammy Hagar’s New Live Album Features Rai Thistlethwayte of Thirsty Merc

Sammy Hagar has always had a reputation for surrounding himself with powerhouse players, but his upcoming live album, Sammy Hagar & The Best Of All Worlds Band – The Residency (out October 10, 2025 via Big Machine Rock), brings a distinctly Australian twist. On keyboards, vocals and guitar is Rai Thistlethwayte, best known at home for fronting Thirsty Merc and more recently as a member of The Fabulous Caprettos. For Australian fans, the inclusion of Thistlethwayte in Hagar’s latest chapter is a striking reminder of how far the Sydney-born musician’s career has travelled.
