Kiss Sued By Eric Carr Estate UPDATE

by Paul Cashmere on March 12, 2014

in News

The estate of the late Eric Carr is taking legal action against Kiss for unpaid royalties but Paul Stanley says the lawsuit is a scam.

Carr replaced Eric singer in Kiss in 1980 and first appeared on ‘Music From ‘The Elder’’ (1981). Carr’s last recording with Kiss was ‘God Gave Rock and Roll To You II’. His last public appearance before his death was at the MTV Video Music Awards in September 1991.

Eric Carr died on November 24, 1991of a rare heart cancer. He was 41.

Carr’s heirs claim that Paul Stanley and Gene Simmons has been less than forthcoming on the royalties of four songs Carr composed and recorded for Kiss records. They have accused Gene Simmons Worldwide Inc of a discrepancy in payments dating back to 1989.

However Kiss founder Paul Stanley says that members of the Carr family he has been in contact with have no idea where the legal action started.

“Eric Carr’s family is shocked by a lawsuit filed without their knowledge or support. We will deal with this attempted scam appropriately,” he Tweeted.

UPDATE: Letter to Paul Stanley from Eric Carr’s sister

Hi Paul,

This is Eric’s sister Loretta, my family and I would like to thank you for coming out so quickly in my families defense.

We were just as shocked as you, When we saw that nonsense article in the paper. I was at a loss, we knew nothing about this.

So thank you for helping to put out the fire and hopefully stopping the negative comments online about my family.

My brother loved KISS and would have never done anything that would hurt the band . We have respected that and will continue to keep his memory with KISS in a positive light.

Congratulations on the Hall of Fame! We know you are trying, to include all, but no matter what may happens, We know Eric is smiling and proud to have been in such a great band)

Sincerely,
The Caravello Family

Kiss will be inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame on April 10.
