Tal Bachman Interview: Bachman Turner Overdrive First Australian Tour

by Paul Cashmere on October 21, 2026

in Live,News

Tal Bachman joins Paul Cashmere for a Noise11 interview ahead of Bachman-Turner Overdrive’s first-ever Australian tour in February 2027.

After 27 years since his last conversation with Noise11, Tal is preparing to return to Australia alongside his father, Randy Bachman, as BTO brings its classic rock catalogue to Brisbane, Sydney, Melbourne, Adelaide and Perth.

In the Noise11 interview, Tal explains how he first joined his father’s musical operation, why recovering the rights to the Bachman-Turner Overdrive name changed the band’s direction, and his determination to recapture the energy and distinctive sound of the original 1970s recordings.

Tal also discusses the role his wife, KoKok, now plays as BTO’s drummer, drawing inspiration from original band member Robbie Bachman. He explains why the imperfections and human feel of classic recordings remain important, even in an era when digital technology can correct almost anything.

The conversation explores Tal’s own songwriting career, including the enduring Australian hit She’s So High, which reached audiences in 1999 and remains part of the BTO live show. Tal reveals how he deliberately produced the song to avoid being tied to a particular era.

Beatles fans will appreciate Tal’s detailed discussion of John Lennon, Paul McCartney, George Harrison and Ringo Starr, including the specific musical ideas that influenced songs on his 1999 debut album. He also reflects on presenting The Musical Mystery Tour with Randy Bachman and the lessons musicians can learn from studying the Beatles catalogue.

Tal opens up about the music industry’s transformation following the rise of digital downloading, the circumstances that interrupted his solo recording career, and his hopes of releasing new music.
