Mike McCready of Pearl Jam, KT Turnstall and Leah Julius of Thunderpussy decided to get together and record a song by one of their all time musical heroes Tom Petty. They chose ‘I Won’t Back Down’. The 3 musicians felt it would serve as a loud shout of support to all the people all over the world marching, protesting and standing up for justice and equality”.

The video was directed and edited by Mark Haldane.

“Huge thanks and love to all the fans who sent photos and footage of their efforts to eradicate injustice and prejudice all over the world. You made this video possible. Thank you,” KT Tunstall said in a statement.

Proceeds from the song will go to the Vitology Foundation. The Vitalogy Foundation is a public non-profit organization that was founded in 2006 by the members of Pearl Jam and their manager. The Foundation supports the efforts of non-profit organizations doing commendable work in the fields of community health, the environment, arts & education and social change. Proposals for grants are by invitation only. We make the majority of our grants to organizations we have identified, and we do not accept unsolicited proposals.

$3 from every Pearl Jam ticket sold also goes to the Vitology Foundation.
