Madonna Compares Herself To Picasso

Madonna is intending to keep making music until she doesn’t “have any more to say”.

The 56-year-old singer is still at the top of her game, having recently released her thirteenth studio album Rebel Heart and speaking about what motivates her to keep delighting fans with new sounds, Madonna revealed some of the creative industry’s most famous names serve as inspiration.

“I like to compare myself to other kinds of artists like Picasso,” she said in an interview with The Canadian Press. “He kept painting and painting until the day he died. Why? Because I guess he felt inspired to do so. Life inspired him, so he had to keep expressing himself, and that’s how I feel.

“I don’t think there’s a time, a date, an expiration date for being creative. I think you go until you don’t have any more to say.”

Madonna will be promoting the latest album with her upcoming Rebel Heart Tour, which kicks off in Montreal, Canada, on September 9. She’ll be performing in Europe, Australia, Asia and North America, and the star is hoping the concerts will delight and surprise fans.

“The theme I really truly explore in this show more than anything is love and romance,” she noted. “I want people to walk out like they’re feeling inspired and like they’ve seen something they’ve never seen before [and] felt something they’ve never felt before.”

The innovative set up for the tour performances will see comedienne Amy Schumer kick off proceedings for three of Madonna’s shows in New York and, while the singer admits the prospect of having a stand-up comedian open her concert is a gamble, she is looking forward to seeing how it goes down with the audience.

“Amy’s a role model for women, and I am too, and I think it’s a good match,” said Madonna. “I love her and I just thought, ‘That’s interesting.’ [I’ll] try something new and different rather than the usual run-of-the-mill – have a band, have a DJ. It’s definitely a new thing. I hope it works – fingers crossed.”
