Stone Temple Pilots Pen Farewell Letter To Scott Weiland

The Stone Temple Pilots have penned a note in tribute to former lead singer Scott Weiland who was found dead while on tour Thursday night.

The band and Weiland did not have the most harmonious relationship. Even while they were an active entity, Weiland’s various substance abuse problems caused the group to cancel tours and other plans and forced them into hiatus periods. They successfully reunited with Scott in 2008 but fired him from the band in 2013.

The surviving members of the group, now made up of original members Dean and Robert DeLeo and Eric Kretz, issued the following statement on Facebook:

Dear Scott,

Let us start by saying thank you for sharing your life with us.

Together we crafted a legacy of music that has given so many people happiness and great memories.

The memories are many, and they run deep for us.

We know amidst the good and the bad you struggled, time and time again.

It’s what made you who you were.

You were gifted beyond words, Scott.

Part of that gift was part of your curse.

With deep sorrow for you and your family, we are saddened to see you go.

All of our love and respect.

We will miss you brother,

Robert, Eric, Dean

Authorities have said that Weiland died in his sleep from cardiac arrest although an official autopsy has not been performed. He was 48.
