My Friend The Chocolate Cake Will Breakup After This Current Tour

My Friend The Chocolate Cake will cease performing after their Perth show on August 17 and its pretty final stuff.

As they embarked on this current The Winter Revival tour it was revealed at the band’s Facebook page, “This tour is our last sojourn. After the Perth show we shall be hanging up our worn and lumpy boots…(forever? probably.. but there is always the chance that if we aren’t dead and somebody offered us a gig in 7 years time in, say, sunny Noumea, there is a possibility).

As always with decisions of this nature there is some regret but we’ve had a pretty good 28 year run with it, loads of gigs, adventures and song writing since that first gig at Madigan’s on Sydney Rd in 1990. We’re going out pretty content, in good spirits and proud of our legacy. One more lap of the country. It’s been the best of bands to play in,9 albums and bucket loads of memories.”

A post at the official My Friend The Chocolate Cake website is less revealing stating, “The upcoming MFTCC shows will be their last shows for some years, as they will be taking an indefinite hiatus to pursue other projects”.

This means there are now just five more My Friend The Chocolate Cake shows to go:

Saturday 14 July – Melbourne Recital Centre, Melbourne VIC
Friday 20 July – Lizotte’s, Newcastle NSW
Saturday 21 July – City Recital Hall, Sydney NSW
Sat 28th July – Peacock Theatre Hobart 3-5.30 & 8 -10.30pm
Friday 17th August – Heath Ledger Theatre Perth State Theatre Centre

David Bridie and Helen Mountfort, both from Not Drowning, Waving’ formed My Friend The Chocolate Cake in 1989. The first album ‘My Friend The Chocolate Cake’ was released in 1991. The second ‘Brood’ took them into the ARIA charts.

My Friend The Chocolate Cake’s most recent album is ‘The Revival Meeting’ released in 2017. It featured the song ‘Jeffrey Smart’.
