Neil Young targeted $800,000 in funding from Kickstarter for his Pono digital music player. It has now passed $2 million in just 24 hours.

At the time of publication Pono has raised $2,372,112 from 7,284 backers to continue development of what Young claims will be an iPod killer.

The high quality Pono device is promised to play music in the highest quality compared to the poor quality from the iPod and other digital music players.

Pono will also feature music store selling the highest quality versions of albums to be played on the Pono device.

Backers could pledge anywhere from $1 to $5000 for development of the device. For $5000 you got a listening party and dinner with Neil Young. Its sold out

$400 got you a limited edition Neil Young signature Pono. Sorry, they are all gone too.

$400 also gets you a Lenny Kravitz, Willie Nelson or Tom Petty signature Pono. There are a few left.

Signature players from Pearl Jam, Tom Petty, Crosby Stills Nash & Young, Foo Fighters, Willie Nelson, Patti Smith, Arcade Fire, Beck, Dave Mathews Band, Herbie Hancock, Norah Jones, Pearl Jam, My Morning Jacket, and James Taylor are also coming.

Young and CEO John Hamm launched Pono with an investor presentation at SXSW this week.

Neil Young has never hidden from uncomfortable truths, especially when they intersect with his music. Few examples illustrate that candour more starkly than Borrowed Tune, a fragile piano lament that openly acknowledges its melodic debt to The Rolling Stones' 1966 recording Lady Jane. Rather than obscuring the connection, Young placed it front and centre, turning a moment of creative exhaustion into one of the most disarming confessions in his catalogue.

Jim Jarmusch’s Father Mother Sister Brother: Tom Waits Anchors a Dreamy Triptych of Familial Echoes

Jim Jarmusch’s latest film, Father Mother Sister Brother, unfolds as a quietly resonant triptych—three subtly linked vignettes set in rural America, Dublin, and Paris—that trace the delicate tensions and aching silences between grown children and their elders. At its emotional core is Tom Waits, delivering a character wrought with understated charm and oddball slyness, playing an enigmatic father whose mismatched wristwear—a genuine Rolex amid apparent poverty—hints at hidden motives and eccentric resilience.
