The British boyband, consisting of Liam Payne, Niall Horan, Harry Styles, Zayn Malik and Louis Tomlinson, are one of the most successful acts around, having sold more than 12 million records in one year.

However, the teenage heartthrobs would consider following in the footsteps of British group Take That by taking a hiatus.

‘We want to be like Take That or Gary Barlow, take ten years out and then come back,’ Niall told British newspaper The Mirror.

The comment was made yesterday, the same day One Direction released their new single Little Things, which was penned by Harry’s musician friend Ed Sheeran.

The boys have already released a music video which shows the lyrics flashing up on the screen, and will release an official promo soon.

‘We heard the new song and said, ‘Yeah, that’s a cracker, we want it,” Niall enthused.

‘For the video, we just kind of sit around in a studio and act like we’re recording.’

Fellow British band Take That split in 1996, after member Robbie Williams left to pursue a solo career.

The act reformed without Robbie in 2006 and staged a sensational comeback with their album Beautiful World. In 2010, Robbie returned to the group to record the album Progress and join his bandmates on tour.
