Sydney singer Paulini has picked up the starring role of Rachel Marron in the upcoming Australian production of The Bodyguard.

The role of Rachel Marron was played by Whitney Houston in 1992 romantic thriller starring Kevin Costner.

The story is a music superstar who finds she has a violent stalker. The movie was the second highest grossing film of 1992 worldwide. The soundtrack featured Whitney Houston reimagining the Dolly Parton song ‘I Will Always Love You’. Whitney’s version of the song spent 14 weeks at number one on the Billboard chart.

The Bodyguard music premiered in London in December 2012. Deborah Cox will star in the 2016-2017 US national tour of the musical starting in Milburn, New Jersey.

Paulini rose to prominence in the first season of Australian Idol in 2003. She came in fourth place after Cosimo De Vito (3), Shannon Noll (2) and Guy Sebastian (1).

Paulini released her third album (and first in nine years) ‘Come Alive’ in 2015.

The Bodyguard The Musical will make its Australian debut at the Lyric Theatre in Sydney in April 2017.
