Prince Family Not In Dispute Sister Says

Prince’s sister has spoken out to silence reports suggesting the Purple Rain star’s family is squabbling over his estate.

Tyka Nelson, who helped comfort fans outside her brother’s Paisley Park home in Minnesota in the hours after his untimely death on 21 April (16), insists there is no bad blood between herself and her siblings as they attempt to divide the late star’s assets, contrary to reports they’re all bickering over who should get what in the absence of a will.

Tyka, who filed legal documents to appoint a special Administrator to the music icon’s estate, took to Facebook on Friday (13May16) to update fans and assured them that she and her half-brothers “remain united” as they continue to mourn the loss of Prince.

She added: “To my knowledge… No One in my family has fought about anything, and least of all me… but I must admit I think it’s funny that I’m the one they say, ‘Stormed out…’ or that ‘We are at war’ Me? Us? Really? Where was I when all that happened?”

Her remarks follow stories that suggest she left a family meeting following her brother’s death, clearly unhappy with plans for his estate.

Prince was found unresponsive in an elevator at his Paisley Park home in Chanhassen, Minnesota, and his body was quickly cremated after being released to the family, but his remains have yet to be formally laid to rest.

There has been a family get together and various public tribute events, and Jehovah’s Witness officials plan to honour their fallen brother at an invite-only funeral in Minnetonka, Minnesota on Sunday (15May16).

But Tyka is keen to make it clear that her brother’s ashes will be scattered after an upcoming family memorial.

She writes: “Let me make myself VERY CLEAR! I nor my brother’s remains will be present at any Memorial or Funeral services, until the families Memorial/Funeral/Tribute.

“The grief process is a unique experience to each individual and Therefore I support any and all Memorials or Funerals that have happened and/or are being planned… However I will Not be in attendance, because I feel that once… is enough.”

Reports suggest the family had planned a private funeral for Prince on 23 April (16), but it was cancelled and his close friends and family instead had an “intimate gathering. An official memorial service and public event will be rescheduled for August (16).
