A new box set chronicling the career of the group Rainbow between 1975 and 1984 will possibly make it to the market before the end of the year.

The Facebook site of the Ritchie Blackmore magazine More Black Than Purple posted:

Pleased to announce that a RAINBOW box set provisionally entitled A LIGHT IN THE DARK is being released. It contains many previously unreleased tracks, and spans the band’s years from 1975 – 1984. More news soon, but it could be out before the end of the year.

Rainbow was together during two periods, from 1975 to 1984 and reunited from 1994 to 1997 with no lineup lasting more than two years. The band started with Ritchie Blackmore, Ronnie James Dio, Gary Driscoll, Craig Gruber and Micky Lee Soule but, by the time they disbanded in 1984, only Blackmore remained.

During the time covered by the box set, the band released seven studio albums and one live album. Their highest charting albums in the U.S. were the debut, Ritchie Blackmore’s Rainbow (1975) and Straight Between the Eyes (1982) both of which peaked at 30. Their biggest hits were Stone Cold (1982 / #1 Mainstream Rock / #40 Pop) and Street of Dreams (1983 / #2 Mainstream Rock / #60 Pop).
