Scott Weiland Band Member Tommy Black Escapes Drug Charges

Tommy Black, a member of late musician Scott Weiland’s group The Wildabouts, will not be prosecuted for cocaine possession.

The Stone Temple Pilots singer died on 3 December (15) in Bloomington, Minnesota while on tour with his band The Wildabouts.

Soon after Weiland’s death, Black was taken into custody by police for fifth degree felony possession of drugs after cops searched a tour bus and uncovered a small quantity of cocaine in his living quarters, while another minor stash was discovered in the bedroom where the tragic singer’s body was found.

But on Saturday (19Dec15) Bloomington Deputy Police Chief Mike Hartley announced to Alternative Nation authorities will not be pursuing a drug charge against Black because they believe it will be too difficult to prove he owned the cocaine.

“(The narcotics) were found in a bunk and obviously with several people residing on a bus a number of people could have potentially possessed those narcotics, so at the end of the day we decided not to pursue charges against him,” Deputy Hartley told People magazine.

Black seemed to have confirmed he was exonerated of possession charges by posting a link to the Alternative Nation article which announced the news on his personal Facebook page.

The Hennepin County Medical Examiner confirmed on Friday (18Dec15) in an official coroner’s report Weiland passed away as a result of an accidental overdose, listing “multi-substance dependence” as a factor in his death, as well as “significant” heart disease and asthma.

“The above named individual died of mixed drug toxicity,” a statement from the Hennepin Medical Examiner reads. “Cocaine, ethanol and Methylenedioxyamphetamine (MDA).”

Weiland was laid to rest in Los Angeles last week.
