Canadian emo-rock trio Second Harbour – brothers Xavier and Vincent Morency, along with John Muggianu, have released their debut EP, Coalesce, via SharpTone Records. The four-track collection is out now and available through all major streaming platforms.

Formed in the fertile underground of Canada’s post-hardcore scene, Second Harbour have already drawn attention from Exclaim!, Hit Parader, and Idobi for their emotionally charged sound and uncompromising DIY ethos. The band recently shared a self-shot video for the title track, highlighting their hands-on approach and commitment to intimate, lo-fi storytelling.

Second Harbour’s early releases hinted at their potential, but Coalesce sees the trio fully realised. Single Mourning Dove, accompanied by a self-edited video shot in an abandoned house, captures the band at their rawest. Xavier Morency describes the song’s lyrics as “designed to spear you in the stomach, unapologetically so,” noting the careful crafting that allows lines to be read differently than they are heard. Urgent, angular guitars underpin the stark lyricism, a hallmark of their post-hardcore and emo fusion.

“This EP was about proving something to ourselves,” Vincent Morency explains. “In the past, we worried about fitting into a scene or subgenre. This time, we wanted to take the swings we’d always dreamed of. The title track runs four and a half minutes, our third track blends our happiest and heaviest moments, and the main single is packed with so many lyrics we joked we’d need a permit for them. Coalesce is everything we wanted it to be.”

Second Harbour’s journey has been shaped by countless independent releases and live shows, experiences that feed directly into Coalesce’s emotional intensity. While SharpTone’s backing gives them a wider platform, the band retains full control over their artistic direction. The EP balances noise and melody, aggression and reflection, across four unflinching songs.

Xavier Morency recalls the creative challenge behind the title track: “For weeks, we tried to build that song from the ground up. It felt impossible, and we were crumbling under our own expectations. Letting those go allowed us to return to it with fresh energy, and suddenly everything fell into place.”
