Smash Mouth Singer Taken To Hospital

Steve Harwell, the lead singer for the band Smashmouth, was hospitalized on Thursday after having breathing difficulties during the soundcheck for a show in Memphis.

The singer suffers from cardiomyopathy which makes it difficult for the heart to pump blood to the rest of the body. Smashmouth’s management insists that the hospitalization was a precautionary move and was not serious.

So far, Thursday’s show in Memphis and Friday’s in Portsmouth, OH were postponed until a later date. It appears that they will be back on stage tonight in Elgin, IL as a post was made to their Facebook page stating “Back to it!” Tonight’s show also features Belinda Carlisle, Martha Davis and the Motels, Annabelle Lwin (Bow Wow Wow) and Permanent Wave. Their next show isn’t until Friday in Fort Madison, IA.

Smash Mouth formed in 1994 and had a series of hits from 1997 to 2001 including “Walkin’ on the Sun”, “Can’t Get Enough Of You Baby”, “All Star”, “Then the Morning Comes” and a cover of the Monkees’ “I’m a Believer” for the soundtrack of Shrek.
