Spandau Ballet’s Steve Norman joins Paul Cashmere at Noise11.com to look back on the band’s formative Blitz Years, now captured in the new box set Everything Is Now (1978–1982).

In this intimate conversation, Steve shares memories from London’s legendary Blitz Club — the birthplace of the New Romantic movement — where the grey aftermath of punk exploded into colour and creativity. He paints vivid scenes of Tuesday nights spent among icons-in-the-making: Boy George, Marilyn, Midge Ure, Billy Idol, and a community of fashion designers and musicians who would go on to define a generation.

Steve recalls Spandau Ballet’s earliest shows, the switch from guitars to synthesisers, and how the Blitz crowd became the band’s creative family. He opens up about the group’s first photo sessions, the early demos now restored by Steven Wilson, and the rediscovered BBC recordings that showcase the energy of their youth.

With the Everything Is Now box set and the current Blitz exhibition in London, the conversation is a nostalgic journey through one of British pop’s most creative eras. Steve also reflects on Spandau Ballet’s legacy and whether the
band could one day return for a farewell tour.

“Never say never,” he tells Paul — a hopeful nod that the story of Spandau Ballet may still have one final encore.
