Just one week after Australia’s Liberal Party government knifed their right-winged leader for just a jump to there is still lunacy running the asylum.
This week Michael Keenan, the Minister Assisting the Prime Minister on Counter Terrorism, has released a report linking Alternative Music with “violent extremism”.
Keenan launched the Radicalisation Awareness Kit this week. It is designed to help teachers identity students who could be linked to terrorism. The report uses as an example the fictitious Karen who leaves home to go to university and then starts to show signs of radicalism through a “typical teenage rebellion” when she becomes involved in the “alternative music scene, student politics and leftwing activism”.
Labor MP Andrew Giles commented on his Facebook page, “this is bizarre, and says more about Michael Keenan than anything else. As someone who was a student activist, and who still loves alternative music, do I need to be sent for re-education or de-programming?”
Is it a sign of my radical, music-listening youth that I thought #freekaren was a Sonic Youth reference?

The Guardian reports that experts and community leaders have been warned about jumping to conclusions with the report or Australia could find itself in the same situation as America when Muslim teenager Ahmed Mohamed was arrested for bring a home-made clock to school.
