David McCormack discusses the unexpected birth of TRS-80, the project he formed with Adele Pickvance and Nicholas Norton after his 2025 Christmas show in Brisbane. What began as a one-off performance quickly developed into a new recording project, with the trio heading into Incremental Records Studio in Brisbane and recording six songs in just four hours.
He explains the thinking behind the TRS-80 title No Context For Old Men and the story behind the song “Your Friends Will Try To Kill You”.
The conversation also explores McCormack’s songwriting process and why he now considers the musicians who will perform a song before deciding how it should sound.
McCormack compares the spontaneous TRS-80 recording process with the more considered approach used by Custard and discusses his belief that Custard could continue making records for many years.
He also talks about the unexpected connection between Custard and Bluey, where he voices Bandit, and how the series has brought younger listeners towards his music.
