The 2012 Vodafone New Zealand Music Awards were presented on Thursday night, with Six60 staying true to their name by winning six Tuis, including Single of the Year and Best Group, while Kimbra took home five awards, including Best Female Solo Artist and Album of the Year, for her internationally successful Vows.

Auckland-based Six60 released their self-titled debut album in October last year. It debuted at No. 1 in the New Zealand charts and was certified Gold in its first week. It is now the nation’s highest selling for the year, achieving triple platinum status.

The group’s double platinum single ‘Don’t Forget Your Roots’, which this week celebrates 52 consecutive weeks in the New Zealand Singles Chart, earned them Highest Selling NZ Single and NZ On Air Radio Airplay of the Year, as well as of course Single of the Year.

Not surprisingly, given this success, they also picked up the Vodafone People’s Choice Award.

Kimbra, who famously featured in the multi-platinum single ‘Somebody That I Used to Know’ by Gotye, was awarded Breakthrough Artist of the Year, as well as Best Pop Album.

The Melbourne-based singer-songwriter also won a Tui for International Achievement for her debut album Vows. The album reached Platinum status in Australia and debuted at number 14 on the US Billboard Chart.

Kimbra will be speaking at Melbourne’s Face The Music conference on 17th November.

Other winners included The Naked and Famous, Ruban Nielson of Unknown Mortal Orchestra, The Checks, Opossom, Home Brew and Concord Dawn.

The Black Seeds, who will be playing at the Espy in Melbourne on Cup Eve, picked up the award for Best Roots Album for their latest, Dust and Dirt.

The awards were presented on Thursday night at Auckland’s Vector Arena.
