Newsted is the latest act to pull-out of Soundwave.

Former Metallica bass player made the announcement clear on Facebook with a simple “The NEWSTED Band will not be appearing or performing live in February or March 2014”.

Newsted were at the centre of a public hissy fit by Dave Mustaine of Megadeth last week when word was Mustaine refused to be billed with Newsted. (Both were original members of Metallica), Megadeth then withdrew from the festival completely.

Newsted was also to perform Soundwave sideshows in Sydney and Melbourne with Testament.

The usually outspoken promoter AJ Maddah has refrained from commenting on the Newsted cancellation on Twitter.

Soundwave has had an unusually high run of cancellations with Hardcore Superstar, Sevendust, Stone Temple Pilots, Megadeth, Whitechapel and Conor Oberst’s Desaparecidos all off the bill bringing the departure tally to seven acts.

UPDATE: Promoter AJ Maddah Tweeted this afternoon “Trying to find Newsted and figure out what is going on. The band’s equipment just arrived in Brisbane so not sure what’s up”.
