Craig Bloxom of Spy Vs Spy is back on stage, and the Australian charts are telling an extraordinary story. In this Noise11 interview, Craig talks to Paul Cashmere about the reissue success of Harry’s Reasons and AO Mod TV Vers., the band’s 40th anniversary shows and plans to take the music around Australia again in 2027.

Both albums have reached the Australian Top 10, with Harry’s Reasons at No. 1 and AO Mod TV Vers. at No. 2 on the Australian artist chart. For Craig, the response is humbling, particularly because the albums did not reach those positions when they were originally released in the 1980s.

Craig discusses the emotional experience of playing to audiences who remember Spy Vs Spy from four decades ago, hearing fans sing along to songs that have become part of their lives and discovering that younger generations are also connecting with the band’s music.

The conversation explores the new live band’s musical freedom, with guitarist Bob Spencer bringing a different dimension to the songs through extended jams and spontaneous solos. Craig explains why the band opens with Danger Man, why AO Mod closes the show and how The Angels’ Don’t Waste My Time earned a place in the set after Craig requested to perform one of Bob’s songs.

Craig also reflects on the original Spy Vs Spy line-up, the enduring value of Australian rock music and the musicianship of the current band. Looking ahead, he discusses plans for a regional Australian tour in April, May and June 2027, as well as potential reissues of Meet Us Inside, Xenophobia Why and Trash The Planet.

Watch Craig Bloxom discuss the unexpected chart resurgence, the songs, the fans and the next chapter of Spy Vs Spy with Paul Cashmere.
