Rose Carleo returns to Noise11 to talk about the next chapter for the Rose Carleo Band, including the new single “Dirt Bound”, featuring Swedish musician Pontus Snibb of Bonafide.
“Dirt Bound” is the only cover song connected to the new album, with Carleo explaining how her husband and bandmate Mick Atkins first introduced her to Snibb’s band Bonafide. The band became a regular listen before the pair decided to record their own version of “Dirt Bound”. Pontus Snibb subsequently joined the project remotely from Stockholm, contributing backing vocals to the Sydney recording.
In this Noise11 interview with Paul Cashmere, Rose Carleo explains how the international collaboration came together without the musicians ever being in the same room, and discusses the musical connection between Australia and Europe. She also talks about Pontus Snibb’s talents as a singer, guitarist and drummer.
Rose Carleo also looks back at the continuing life of 42 Days, the album that has become an important part of the Rose Carleo Band’s live set. She discusses how songs change once they move from the studio to the stage, the emotional connection she has with audiences and the response to the music in Japan.
The conversation also covers Rose Carleo’s appearance on The Voice Australia, the way the television exposure has affected her audience and why she wants people to understand that her musical story began decades before the television show.
Carleo discusses her love of Led Zeppelin, performing “Rock and Roll” live and the role Mick plays in recreating the guitar-driven sound of the band.
The Rose Carleo Band is also heading to Melbourne for a show at The Workers Club on October 9.
