Stevie Nicks Has Fun At 69 The Review From Rochford Winery

by Paul Cashmere on November 19, 2017

in News

This Stevie Nicks tour is special. Stevie tells lots of stories about lots of the songs and the people she knew who are no longer with us. Tom Petty and Prince featured heavily in the show.

Stevie Nicks is a real rock Goddess. As part of Fleetwood Mac she grew to Rock Superstar status in her late 20s by singing songs she wrote (without the help of a committee) about herself. At age 69 (and turning 70 in May), she is now comfortable sharing the stories and generously spoke (as she explained) “like that crazy old Aunt who comes over at Christmas”.

The songs you know, they are history, but did you know that ‘Stand Back’ was written over the top of Prince’s ‘Little Red Corvette’ and that Prince played on her finished version?

Did you know that Stevie’s song ‘Dreams’ was Fleetwood Mac’s only US no 1 hit?

Did you know that ‘Landslide’ was written four years before ‘Rumours’ and is about a house in Aspen or that ‘Stop Draggin’ My Heart Around’ was a song Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers had that they couldn’t place so they gave it to Stevie?

Stevie talked about Tom a lot but as he is no longer around, Chrissie Hynde came on stage to play Tom’s part with the legendary Waddy Wachtel on guitar also contributing vocals. Waddy has played on every Nicks solo album.

The setlist featured Stevie’s songs, both solo and with Fleetwood Mac, but not necessarily the hits. ‘Enchanted’ and ‘Outside The Rain’ dug deep into the first two solo albums, she travelled back to pre-FM with the Buckingham Nicks songs ‘Crying In The Night’, being performed live for the very first time on this tour and she caught up on the songs she missed over time finally recorded recently on ‘24 Karat Gold’

The Rumours classic ‘Landslide’ ended the show and Stevie left those parting words “I am 69 years old. This May 26 I will be 70. There you go girls. You can still wear beautiful clothes, you can still dance, you can still be totally happening. You just have to keep the focus. Stay Alive. Have fun. That’s what I keep saying, just have fun. Remember the world is made for us to have fun. Go out there and have a lot of fun. And my last thought is don’t do anything if it isn’t fun”.

James Taylor Farewells Australia With Final Tour (Melbourne Review)

I could go to a James Taylor show just for the stories. The man is a part of music history and is still around to tell the tales of how it all began. Like, for instance, being the first artist signed to Apple Records. James “auditioned” for Apple with his song ‘Something In The Way She Moves’. "Paul went away and started the label and George went away and wrote the song”, he said.
