The Chainsmokers ‘Closer’ Tops Major Lazer On Australian Streaming Chart

The Chainsmokers featuring Halsey hit ‘Closer’ has bumped Major Lazer featuring Justin Bieber from the top of the Spotify streaming chart in Australia.

The Chainsmokers and Halsey hit has been a constant download seller and topped the download chart for two weeks running. As per the usual pattern, as songs sell, the flow moves to airplay and streaming.

‘Closer’ is also a global streaming number one for The Chainsmokers and Halsey flowing on from a week where The Chainsmokers joined Halsey at her show at Madison Square Garden.

The Chainsmokers duo of Alex Pall and Drew Taggart have really redeemed themselves after an appalling introduction to the world via an awful performance on American Idol in 2014 doing ‘Selfie’ where they left the audience gobsmacked with how bad it was. In 2016 they fell just out of the Top 10 on Forbes top earning DJs list.

The song with most momentum is the new twenty one pilots ‘Heathens’ only found on the soundtrack to Suicide Squad. With a hit movie in theatres and a number one soundtrack album with thanks to twenty one pilots as well as Panic At The Disco, Skrillex and Eminem, ‘Heathens’ has been a song radio has jumped all over.

Australia’s Top 10 Streaming Songs for 19 August 2016

1. The Chainsmokers feat. Halsey – Closer

2. Major Lazer feat Justin Bieber & MØ – Cold Water

3. DJ Snake feat. Justin Bieber – Let Me Love You

4. twenty one pilots – Heathens

5. Drake – One Dance

6. Illy – Papercuts

7. Drake – Too Good

8. Shawn Mendes – Treat You Better

9. Calvin Harris – This Is What You Came For
