The 2013 Jazz Bell Awards will be handed out in Melbourne on May 2. Nominees for the 11th Jazz Bell Awards have been announced.

The Jazz Bell Awards were named in honour of Australian jazz great Graeme Bell who passed away in 2012.

The 2013 nominee shortlist is:

In the category of Best Australian Jazz Vocal Album the final nominees are:
Chris McNulty – The Song That Sings You Here
Gian Slater/Jamie Oehlers – The Differences
Michelle Nicolle Quartet – Mancini

In the Category of Most Original Australian Jazz Album the final nominees are:
Barney McAll – Graft
Yitzhak Yedid- Arabic Violin Bass Piano Trio
Marc Hannaford- Sarcophile

In the category of Best Australian Contemporary Jazz Album, the final nominees are:
Jamie Oehlers Quartet Feat. Ari Hoenig – Smoke And Mirrors
Stephen Magnusson – Magnet
Bernie McGann – Wending

In the category of Best Australian Traditional Jazz Album the final nominees are:
Flap! – A Great Day For The Race
Shirazz – Enjoy Responsibly
Zohar’s Nigun – The Four Questions

In the category of Best Australian Jazz Song of the Year the final nominees are:
Barney McAll -Nostalgia For The Present
David Ades – Joe The Kid
Mace Francis – Land Speed Record

In the category of Best Australian Jazz Ensemble the final nominees are:

Murphy’s Law – Big Creatures & Little Creatures

In the category of Young Australian Jazz Artist of the Year the final nominees are:
Steve Barry – Steve Barry
Callum G’Froerer – City Speaks
Samuel Pankhurst – Sarcophile

The 2013 Judging Panel for the Jazz Bell Awards is Adrian Jackson, Albert Dadon, Gerry Koster, Laurence Donohue-Greene, Martin Jackson, Michael Tortoni, John McBeath and Rob Burke.

The awards acknowledge achievements across the various Jazz categories not normally recognized in other music award shows.
