AC/DC Retirement Gossip Shot Down In Flames, Malcolm Young Takes Break From Band

AC/DC have officially confirmed they are not breaking up but founding member Malcolm Young is taking a break from the band due to illness.

AC/DC released the following statement following false reports originating from an Australian gossip reporter earlier this week. “After forty years of life dedicated to AC/DC, guitarist and founding member Malcolm Young is taking a break from the band due to ill health. Malcolm would like to thank the group’s diehard legions of fans worldwide for their never-ending love and support,” the statement reads.

“In light of this news, AC/DC asks that Malcolm and his family’s privacy be respected during this time. The band will continue to make music”.

Australian media went into a frenzy on Tuesday after an anonymous email credited to ‘Thunderstuck’ was sent to Perth radio station 6PR the day. The rumour suggested that AC/DC were about to announce their break-up.

That sent one Melbourne gossip reporter into action starting a wave of inaccuracy across radio repeating the rumour as fact.

As first reported by Iain Shedden in the Australia, AC/DC are booked to go into a studio in Vancouver on May 1 for six weeks work on their next album. Singer Brian Johnson has confirmed that is still happening.

Gary Graff at Billboard also received inside information that the Australian gossip was based on false information.

Guitarist Malcolm Young is a founding member of AC/DC. He formed the band with his brother Angus in 1973. Angus and Malcolm are the only original members still with the band.
