Vigils for Myuran Sukumaran and Andrew Chan will take place in Sydney, Melbourne and Perth this Wednesday February 18 to plea for mercy for the lives of these two Australian citizen facing execution on death row in Indonesia.

While Sukumaran and Chan have been found guilty of drug trafficking in Indonesia and face the firing squad before the end of this month, it should be pointed out that Indonesia is also pleading for clemency for some of its own citizens facing the death squad in other countries.

The Australian Federal Police will also have blood on its hands if Myuran and Andrew are executed after it failed in its duties to take action on known information that would have meant an arrest of the pair on Australian soil instead of Indonesian.

Here is the information for the Vigils around Australia for this Wednesday

As time is running out for Myuran Sukumaran and Andrew Chan and their execution in Indonesia becomes more and more likely, artists Ben Quilty and Matthew Sleeth have vowed to continue to fight for mercy for their friends with Ampuni (meaning Mercy) Vigils being held in Sydney, Melbourne and Perth this Wednesday evening, 18 February, 2015.

Myuran Sukumaran and Andrew Chan have been in an Indonesian jail for almost 10 years and have profoundly changed their lives, now devoting their time to the rehabilitation of other prisoners. Over 178,000 people have signed the Mercy Campaign petition so far and many millions have voiced their disapproval of the planned executions of these two reformed men. There is still hope that Myuran and Andrew will be granted clemency and their death sentence commuted to life in prison.

Wednesday evening’s Vigils will give members of the public an opportunity to unite together in a show of solidarity and support for Andrew and Myuran and their families.

The Vigils will include guest speakers and musicians all supporting mercycampaign.org’s #IStandForMercy message.
