Pop punk Avril Lavigne is bouncing back from her battle with Lyme disease with plans to release her first album since 2013.

Avril Lavinge was sidelined by the tick-borne illness in the autumn of 2014, but it took doctors months to diagnose her with the bacterial infection, which can cause general weakness, joint pain, rashes, and flu-like symptoms.

She has slowly been adjusting to life with the condition, and told fans last year (15) she was finally “on my way to good health”.

Avril, who was left bedridden for five months by the health problem, returned to the stage to perform Fly at the Opening Ceremony of the 2015 Special Olympics World Games in Los Angeles in July, 2015, and on Monday (26Dec16), the singer revealed she is gearing up to make her full chart comeback in 2017.

“Hi Everyone!!” she wrote beside a colourful photo of herself sitting at a piano. “I wanted to first thank my fans for your patience & support during my time away throughout my battle with Lyme Disease over the past 2 years. It hasn’t just been a hard battle but it’s also been enlightening and will reflect in my new music, artistry, life, and personally…

“I’m really happy to announce that I am now working on new music and I will be releasing a new album in 2017. “I can’t wait to open up and share my heart with you! I’m excited for you guys to hear the new songs. It’s going to be an amazing 2017!”

Avril also used the post to promise to continue raising awareness for Lyme disease through her self-titled charity foundation.

The singer’s next album will serve as the follow-up to her self-titled 2013 release, which featured a series of songs co-written with her now-estranged husband Chad Kroeger. The couple confirmed its separation after two years of marriage last year (15).
