Barry Humphries Resurrects Dame Edna for My Gorgeous Life

by Paul Cashmere on May 6, 2019

in News

Barry Humphries has put the defibrillator on Dame Edna and brought the old chook back to life. Humphries will star Edna in his new show ‘Dame Edna My Gorgeous Life’.

Humphries announced his retirement from live theatre in 2012. He then took his characters including Sir Les Patterson, Sandy Stone and Dame Edna out for what was meant to be one last time. However, like Kiss and Cher, the end if only the beginning.

Promoter Paul Dainty is backing the new tour. “Dame Edna Everage is a great Australian export, an iconic performer, artist and star of stage and screen,” Mr Dainty said. “She has toured the world since the mid 1950s and we are delighted she has emerged from retirement so we can welcome her home again.”

Leo Sayer Shares His Thoughts on The Passing of Sly Stone

There really is a riot going on right now, so what a poignant moment it seems to be to lose a hero I never met, yet a man I often imagined as my soul brother. I worked with many of his alumni (including the man who helped invent him, fellow San Fran disk jockey Tom Donahue), and to say they and he inspired me would be a useless understatement.
