The Beatles and Kris Kristofferson are just two music legends announced as recipients of the Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award.

This week the Recording Academy has announced their list of special merit awards for 2014.

The artists, executives and technicians will be honoured at a special invitation-only ceremony on Saturday, January 25 and will be formerly recognized the next night during the Grammy Awards ceremony.

It’s hard to believe, but The Beatles have never been recognized by the Academy with its Lifetime Achievement Award. They are included on this year’s list of individuals and groups being honoured which also includes the Isley Brothers, Kris Kristofferson, Kraftwerk, zydeco legend Clifton Chenier, Mexican songwriter and musician Armando Manzanero and violinist Maud Powell.

The Trustees Award, which honors non-performers who have made contributions of outstanding significance, will go to FAME Studios owner and record producer Rick Hall, Marshall Amps founder Jim Marshall and film composer Ennio Morricone.

The 2014 Technical Grammy Awards go to Emile Berliner, one of the developers of the phonograph and founder of the Berliner Gramophone Company, and the company known as the “godfather of digital reverb”, Lexicon.

Recording Academy President and CEO Neil Portnow said “It is a great privilege to recognize such an exceptional group of honorees and celebrate their accomplishments and contributions to the recording industry. This astoundingly unique and gifted group have created some of the most distinguished and influential work in our musical history. Their legacies are timeless and legendary, and their creativity will continue to influence and inspire future generations.”
