Bruce Springsteen Previews First Springsteen On Broadway Show

by Roger Wink, VVN Music on October 6, 2017

in News

Bruce Springsteen played his first preview of his 18-week run of Springsteen on Broadway at the Walter Kerry Theatre in New York on Tuesday night. The show officially opens next Tuesday (October 12).

Bruce is normally known for mixing his set list up every night but, for the Broadway show, he has said that things will be much more strict.

Loosely based on his autobiography, Born to Run, the show includes music from throughout his career sequenced in what appears to be the order of a biographical narrative. While reviews are normally not published until opening night, it is expected that Bruce will be doing some storytelling between songs which may be the reason for the rather paltry fifteen song set.

On Tuesday, Bruce’s wife, Patty Scialfa, joined him for two songs, “Tougher Than the Rest” and “Brilliant Disguise”.

The set list:
Growin’ Up (from Greetings From Asbury Park, NJ, 1973)
My Hometown (from Born in the U.S.A., 1984)
My Father’s House (from Nebraska, 1982)
The Wish (from Tracks, 1998, originally an outtake from Tunnel of Love, 1987)
Thunder Road (from Born to Run, 1975)
The Promised Land (from Darkness on the Edge of Town, 1978)
Born in the U.S.A. (from Born in the U.S.A., 1984)
Tenth Avenue Freeze-Out (from Born to Run, 1975)
Tougher Than the Rest (from Tunnel of Love, 1987)
Brilliant Disguise (from Tunnel of Love, 1987)
The Ghost of Tom Joad (from The Ghost of Tom Joad, 1995)
Long Walk Home (from Magic, 2007)
Dancing in the Dark (from Born in the U.S.A., 1984)
Land of Hope and Dreams (from Wrecking Ball, 2012)
Born to Run (from Born to Run, 1975)
